Capture with your voice
Speak a task when typing is not an option — walking, driving, or mid-thought.
Some things occur to you when your hands are busy. Voice capture takes a spoken sentence and files it as a task, so the thought survives the walk back to your desk.
Use it
- 1Start a voice capture from the add button, or from Handled on your Apple Watch.
- 2Say the task the way you would say it to a person, including a day or time if it has one.
- 3Review what was captured and confirm.
Permissions
The first time you use it, iOS or macOS will ask for microphone access, and for speech recognition. Both are required for voice capture and nothing else. You can change them later in the system Settings app under Privacy & Security.
Speech is processed on your device wherever the platform supports it. See Privacy: what stays on your device.
